Our Counselor:

Mr. Dumont graduated from Holy Trinity in 1993 and then attended the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Arts.  Further into his post secondary career, Mr. Dumont switched faculties and graduated with and Education Degree in 1998.  He then took a year to travel and he returned to begin his career in education in 2000.  Mr. Dumont has taught elementary and junior high school, mostly physical education and social studies.  He has also been a counselor at both levels.  He has spent time as a Curriculum Consultant for social studies and as a coordinator for student teachers at the University of Alberta.  He completed his Masters in Education in 2007 and currently teaches a course at the University.  Mr. Dumont is also very passionate about athletics and has coached many sports, including basketball for NAIT and Grant MacEwan.  Mr. Dumont has been at Holy Trinity since September of 2008.

Things to Explore:

It is important to explore what education you will need to work in this field

Where you can obtain this education, how much it will cost and how long the education will take

The demand for new workers in this career field, and your likely hood of being hired after post secondary graduation.

     Your salary expectations

Highlights or forewarnings about the career field

Ensure the career field matches with your personality, and lifestyle expectations for the future

For example: police work or paramedic work may not be right for you if you don't like shift work, or if you have a fear of public speaking, a lawyer may not be the best career for you
