Edmonton Catholic Schools provides high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and post-secondary credits through Dual Credit programming. These courses serve as meaningful stepping stones toward exciting career pathways and further education. 

Through Dual Credit, students can explore their interests, gain hands-on experience, and build confidence—all within a supportive high school environment.

Fundamental Kitchen Skills and Trade Calculations

Fundamental Kitchen Skills and Trade Calculations CULA 1100

Course Detail 

In partnership with NAIT, ECSD Dual Credit Program offers courses for students interested in pursuing a career in foodservice industry.

The foodservice industry requires a competent and skilled workforce. Students in this course learn fundamental knife skills, knife handling & care, commercial kitchen tools & equipment identification and use. Other learning objectives include basic trade calculations and the importance of flavor matrix in cooking. 

Admission Requirements: Completed English 10-2 and any of: Math 10C, Math 10-3, Math 20-4

Dual Credit Location: NAIT Campus

Health Care Aide

Communication and Documentation in the Health-Care Environment – HLTH 1033 

Course Detail 

In partnership with Norquest College, ECSD Dual Credit Program offers course for students interested in pursuing a career in the Health Care profession. 

 

This course will focus on the role and responsibilities of the health care aide when communicating effectively as a member of the collaborative care team. Strong communication skills are an important part of being a successful health care aide. The health-care environment requires competent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills, which are part of digital literacy. This course will focus on professional communication with other team members, clients, and client’s families; written communication, including documentation in client records and report completion; problem-solving strategies; and handling conflict successfully. A focus on communicating effectively with clients from all cultures while demonstrating cultural competence and understanding the diversity of individuals will be included. Communication strategies for overcoming the challenges and barriers to communication between the client and caregiver caused by disease, illness, and aging in the client will also be discussed. 

 **The course is comprised of lecture and lab instruction**

Admission Requirements: Students must have successfully completed English 20-1 or English 20-2: 60% OR English 30-2: 55% 

Dual Credit Location:  Norquest College Campus  10215 108 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 1L6 

All course and lab instruction will occur on campus.  Students will need to have their field trip form, signed and handed in prior to Summer School starting, on July 2, 2026.

Policing in Canada

Course Details

In partnership with MacEwan University, ECSD Dual Credit Program offers courses for students interested in pursuing a career in policing.

Students learn the principles, practice and philosophy of the Canadian judicial system with emphasis on the criminal trial process. A review of the structure of the Canadian court system, statute law, case law, and the civil court trial process are included.

Admission Requirements: Students must have successfully completed English 20

Dual Credit Location: Archbishop MacDonald Catholic High School - 14219-109 Avenue

Time: 8:15 a.m. – 1:23 p.m.

Days: July 2 – 14, 2026
